Role Overview

The Software Engineer is a hands-on, individual contributor role designed for experienced engineers who want to build meaningful solutions in a specialized, high-impact field. You will architect and develop the technical infrastructure, integrations, and custom solutions that empower law firms to operate more efficiently.

This role is ideal for someone with 4+ years of software engineering experience who is excited about building from the ground up in a rapidly growing legal technology company. You will work across diverse law firm environments—corporate practices, boutiques, and various practice areas—solving unique technical challenges and never doing the same thing twice.

You will not manage people. Instead, you will be a trusted technical expert who bridges the gap between complex legal workflows and elegant software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Build & Maintain Technical Infrastructure

  • Manage and optimize legal software systems including case management platforms, document management systems, and practice management tools.

  • Develop and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS with security, scalability, and compliance as core principles.

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Infrastructure as Code best practices.

  • Implement VPC, IPAM, and networking best practices to ensure secure, efficient system operations.

Create Custom Solutions

  • Develop workflow automation, integrations, and AI-powered tools that solve real business problems for law firm clients.

  • Build systems integration solutions connecting case management systems, billing platforms, document repositories, and other legal tech tools via APIs.

  • Implement AI-driven solutions including Retrieval Augmented Generation applications to streamline legal workflows and enhance productivity.

  • Design and implement user interfaces that translate complex technical capabilities into practical tools for legal professionals.

Data Migration & Integration

  • Lead data migrations from legacy systems to modern platforms with precision, care, and attention to data integrity.

  • Build integrations between disparate platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and system interoperability.

  • Ensure database design and management across SQL, NoSQL, Graph, and Vector database technologies.

Technical Leadership & Best Practices

  • Establish IT standards, security protocols, and development practices that will shape our platform for years to come.Build integrations between disparate platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and system interoperability.

  • Implement security best practices for users, services, and data—with deep understanding of attorney-client privilege and compliance requirements.

  • Develop internal applications and automation tools that streamline daily business activities and operational efficiency.

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand unique workflow requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Qualifications

Required

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience with proven ability to manage complex technical environments.

  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases; Graph and Vector database experience is highly valued.

  • Cloud platform experience with AWS, including VPC, networking, and security best practices.

  • Strong language proficiency with TypeScript, Python, and system scripting (bash/zshell).

  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Infrastructure as Code.

  • Systems integration experience connecting disparate platforms via APIs.

  • Scripting and automation capabilities.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical professionals.

  • Organized and able to manage multiple technical priorities independently.

Preferred

  • Experience with legal case management systems (Filevine, Clio, or similar platforms).

  • Background with legal practice management software, document management systems, or e-discovery tools.

  • Experience with React, NestJS, and AWS-SDK/CDK frameworks.

  • Familiarity with AI workflows and Retrieval Augmented Generation applications.

  • Experience implementing AI-powered automation and modern development practices.

  • Prior experience in legal technology, law firm IT, or supporting legal operations.

  • Legal industry knowledge or strong interest in understanding law firm operations, compliance, and workflows.
